Manitoulin

We were camping in Manitoulin in August, and the girls had a GREAT time.  They loved the swimming, trees, animals, rocks, etc.  Hailie is quite a good little swimmer, and Willow was dubbed “Willow the Explorer”

The girls spent a lot of time naked, in the woods.  We couldn’t keep their clothes on them!  They kept stripped down, and running around.  Luckily the property has lots of privacy!  They were also extremely intrigued by the camp toilet, and various bathrooms and outhouses across the island.

All that time together also caused some sisterly tension.  At one point, Willow was calling for Hailie, trying to her her attention, and Hailie yelled out, “Willow stop using my name!” The next day, Willow and Dave were sitting on the dock having a quiet moment.  Suddenly Willow turns to him and says “Sometimes Hailie drives me CRAZY!”

Willow had a long nap one afternoon, and she wet herself while she was sleeping.  Hailie walked into the room, and woke her up by saying “Willow, you had an accident!” Willow, who was still hal asleep says “No, I just… I just… sat in something… watery.” Hailie replies “That’s ok I did that yesterday. You have to remember to use the toilet.”

Dinosaurs

I was reading Willow as touch and feel book about dinosaurs tonight, and this is the conversation we had:

Mommy: Have you ever seen a real dinosaur?

Willow: Yup.

Mommy: Really?  Where?

Willow: At the zoo.

Mommy: There wouldn’t be any dinosaurs at the zoo, they are all extinct!

Willow: They stink?

Mommy: No, they are extinct.

Willow: They stink?

Mommy: No, extinct.  Extinct means there are no more left.  They all died, and now there are no more.

Willow: Oh.

We read the rest of the book, and at the end, Willow grabs the book from me, takes a big sniff, and says “Yup, they stink.”

Do you want to hear a song?

On the weekend I took the girls to the park in the morning to check out a nice wading pool that I had heard about.  The girls were playing for about 20 minutes in the playground, when Willow put her hand down her pants, and started digging around.  I said, “Willow, get your hand out of your pants please!” She then pulled out a harmonica from her pants.  A harmonica!  Apparently she had no pockets, so she was carrying it in her underwear.  “Do you want to hear a song?”, she asked?

Toast

We were on the way home from daycare this week, and Willow and Hailie were enjoying their usual banter in the back of the car. Willow had a bag of toast left over from breakfast, and Hailie wanted some. Hailie would ask her sister for a piece, and Willow would hand over a tiny bit. When Willow got near the end of the the bag of toast she got frazzled and says, “I am freaking out with toast!”. We couldn’t stop laughing, and the more we laughed, the more she repeated it. “I am freaking out! I am freaking out!”

What’s for breakfast, Willow?

Willow was adamant about receiving a certain breakfast this morning, only I had no idea what she was asking for. I start naming breakfast foods, and she agrees to have some shreddies, although that wasn’t what she had been asking for.

She starts pulling on the fridge doors. “Pull, pull, pull!” I open the door, and she is trying to reach the top shelf, “Reach, reach, reach!”. I pick her up so she can show me what she wants, and she points to the mayonnaise. “There.” Mayo and shreddies. This is what she wants for breakfast.

Reluctantly I prepared a bowl of shreddies with mayo dip. She ate three bowls, each shreddie dipped twice in mayo.
