Manitoulin

We were camping in Manitoulin in August, and the girls had a GREAT time.  They loved the swimming, trees, animals, rocks, etc.  Hailie is quite a good little swimmer, and Willow was dubbed “Willow the Explorer”

The girls spent a lot of time naked, in the woods.  We couldn’t keep their clothes on them!  They kept stripped down, and running around.  Luckily the property has lots of privacy!  They were also extremely intrigued by the camp toilet, and various bathrooms and outhouses across the island.

All that time together also caused some sisterly tension.  At one point, Willow was calling for Hailie, trying to her her attention, and Hailie yelled out, “Willow stop using my name!” The next day, Willow and Dave were sitting on the dock having a quiet moment.  Suddenly Willow turns to him and says “Sometimes Hailie drives me CRAZY!”

Willow had a long nap one afternoon, and she wet herself while she was sleeping.  Hailie walked into the room, and woke her up by saying “Willow, you had an accident!” Willow, who was still hal asleep says “No, I just… I just… sat in something… watery.” Hailie replies “That’s ok I did that yesterday. You have to remember to use the toilet.”

The Hug

On Saturday afternoon we went to play at the local wading pool.  We arrived at the pool, and it was really crowded, but Hailie spotted a woman on the other side of the pool that looked a lot like one of her teachers at daycare.  She ran over to the woman and gave her a BIG hug.  The woman was quite surprised, but hugged her back and said “Do you think you know me?”  The woman took off her sunglasses, and that is when Hailie realized she had made a big mistake!  Her face just dropped, and she buried her face in my leg. It took about 10 minutes for her to get over her embarassment, but eventually she forgot all about it.

Wanna talk?

This weekend Hailie was a little overtired because she had spent more time playing dolls in her room than napping. By Sunday afternoon she was falling apart, and crying over little things. During one random crying outburst I bent down and said “Hailie, do you rememeber what we just talked about?” She looked back at me blankly. “When you are upset about something, instead of crying about it, you can come and talk to Mommy about it instead, ok?” and she replied in typical Hailie fashion, “You wanna talk about not going to bed?”
