Baby Jaclyn

Hailie has been waiting for the arrival of her baby cousin (whom she refers to as Baby Jaclyn), and has been asking a lot of questions about babies. She received a book for her birthday about the human body, and the first few pages are about babies. She was very, very interested in these pages, and asked questions out-of-the-blue on a daily basis.

We were at Grandma and Grandpa’s house and a pregnant cousin was over for a visit. Hailie asks her, “You got a baby in there?” while touching her belly. Tammy replied “Yes…” and Hailie says “Is it floating in the water?” while making a wiggly action with her body. Tammy looks surprised and looks over at me. I replied ‘She has a book.” Hailie then asks says “It’s gonna come out” while making a motion in the direction that baby is going to come out.

A couple of weeks later she had more questions after her cousin Logan was born. She wanted to know how the baby came out, and again we looked at the book. I told her that the Mommy pushes the baby out, and sometimes the doctor has to pull the baby out instead. She now talks about how she has a baby in her tummy that she is going to push out, and how the Dr pulled her out of Mommy’s tummy. It makes for nice dinner converasation.

Toast

We were on the way home from daycare this week, and Willow and Hailie were enjoying their usual banter in the back of the car. Willow had a bag of toast left over from breakfast, and Hailie wanted some. Hailie would ask her sister for a piece, and Willow would hand over a tiny bit. When Willow got near the end of the the bag of toast she got frazzled and says, “I am freaking out with toast!”. We couldn’t stop laughing, and the more we laughed, the more she repeated it. “I am freaking out! I am freaking out!”

Best Friends

Hailie and I were downstairs a few days ago and we hear Willow waking up from her nap. Hailie says, “I hear Willow! Lets go up and get her!” As we reached the top of the stairs, Hailie looks at me and quite seriously says “I like Willow. She is a big, big friend.” Boy can they ever be cute sometimes :)

Oops

So on Friday I go to pick up the girls, and as usual I empty out their basket. I see there are 2 little plastic dogs in there, and they have little tags on them so I think hmmm. I guess these are for them. They each grab one, and on the way home I ask them where they got the doggies from, thinking maybe a birthday or something.

Hailie says ‘Amanda give to me, but then I have no money!’ I laughed and had no idea what she was talking about and then I remembered what daycare had told me about them earning play money, and using it to buy something small on Fridays. I also remembered hearing how my kids are big spenders… then it all hits me. For WEEKS now there has been a little plastic toy or two in the girls basket, and every week I chuck it into lost and found. I have been throwing away the girls hard earned toys!!! I feel so TERRIBLE because Hailie has even said “my toy!” and I have told her that its not hers and we have to give it back.

Crap… I am a bad Mommy hehehe.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

We were at Mama & Papa’s (Grandma and Grandpa’s) for a visit with Auntie Patricia on the weekend. Hailie loves to sing, and she sings her heart out in bed at night and in the mornings, so we were trying to get her to sing a song. Her favourite song is Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star so Auntie Patricia started to sing, pretending to be a terrible singer, going in and out of tune. After Auntie Patricia was done I asked both of the girls, “What did you think of that?”. Willow chimed in, “Umm… that was pretty scary!”

Life Lessons

Dave brought home tacos the other day, and the girls weren’t too sure about them. They didn’t know how to hold them, and they were getting a little frustrated. Willow got the hang of it after awhile, but Hailie threw a little fit and decided that she wanted to eat Daddie’s beef and cheese burrito instead. She absolutely refused to eat with with the wrapper around it, or any sort of napkin. Dave decided it would be a good time for a life lesson since Hailie hates getting her clothes dirty. He said “Ok then, eat it that way, but its going to fall out and get your clothes all dirty, and you aren’t going to get a new shirt”.

Hailie got a few bites in when the inevitable happened. The contents of the burrito squirted out the bottom, but with Hailie’s super human reflexes, she was able to divert the cheesy mess, and the whole thing landed right on Dave’s leg. I don’t think Hailie ended up learning anything from this lesson except how to make a fool out of Daddy!

I’m Yucky

We were coming home from daycare yesterday and Hailie was getting really hungry on the way home. By the time we reached our driveway she was pretending to eat an invisible sandwich. I said to Willow, “Hailie is hungry and you look pretty tasty. You better hurry up because Hailie might eat you.” She looks at me very seriously and says “I not tasty, I yucky… so no one is going to eat me.”

What do you want for Christmas?

I have been asking the girls what they would like Santa to bring for Christmas this year, and since they are in their potty training stage, their answers almost always involve poo. Although that would be a cheap alternative to Christmas presents this year, I continued to ask the girls what they would like Santa to bring, in hopes of some new answers.

A couple days before Christmas, Willow finally seemed to get her mind of the toilet and answered “Mostly Ellies. And soothers. Ellies and soothers.” Ellie is her beloved stuffed elephant/best friend/imaginary friend. As I wrote about before, she does have two Ellies, but apparently the more Ellies the better! Hailie was still on the poo theme, and requested “Poo. Poo in a bag”. Nice.

School Ellie is missing right now, so please keep him in your prayers tonight and hope for his safe return ;)

Daddy sick?

Dave has been sick with a bad cough lately, and he has been coughing so hard it makes him sick. He was out shoveling the driveway on Sunday and suddenly ran inside and straight to the bathroom to be sick. Willow was concerned and said to me, “Daddy sick?”. I didn’t want her to worry so I said, “He’s ok.” She thought about that for a minute, then replied, “Oh. He just looking at the toilet?”

The little helper

Willow has been doing really well with the potty training over the last few days, and this weekend she peed on the potty quite a few times. Hailie is a little more rebellious when it comes to sitting on the potty, so she chooses to be more of a spectator. Willow isn’t too keen on her #1 potty-watching fan, so she usually gets mad and says “Go away Hailie!” After this happened a few times I told Hailie to go into the other room and give her sister some privacy.

Hailie didn’t like this plan, and forced her way past me into the bathroom like a crazed fan. Once she got passed me she handed Willow a book and said “Here’s a book Willow. Want to read?” . When Willow didn’t take her up on the book offer, she kindly ripped some toilet paper off the roll and handed it to her sister. “Here is some toilet paper Willow!” and marched into the other room like she had accomplished her mission.
